Frequently Asked Questions
How do I Learn More About Catholicism?
There are many different reasons people decide to learn more about Catholicism. Whether you simply need a few questions answered, or whether you are interested in becoming a Catholic, we welcome you to contact our church offices.
If you are interested in learning more about our faith, you can read the page, [What Catholics Believe], for an introduction to Catholicism.
Catholicism is biblically based and rich in tradition. To fully understand Catholicism, we invite you to participate in our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program. We encourage everyone to participate in this program, including life long members of the Catholic faith.
Who is Saint Francis de Sales?
Immediately after his ordination in 1593, Francis was willingly dispatched to the isolated Chablis district of France, which had lost its Catholicism during a failed military campaign 60 years prior; the Calvinists had reimposed Protestantism and forced out all the Catholic priests. Francis trekked through the frozen, unforgiving terrain despite danger from wolves, thieves, and violent Calvinists. After four years, two-thirds of the entire population had converted to Catholicism. In the town of Annemasse, devotional celebrations drew more than 30,000 participants and spectators.
What is a Catholic Annulment?
At times, some of our parishioners have married and their marriages have ended due to a painful divorce. As well, some wish to and do remarry outside the church. Many long to return to the Eucharist but have no idea what is involved in doing so. Recently, members of our parish laity have taken a class offered by the Tribunal in our Archdiocese and have been trained as Case Sponsors for those who seek an annulment. They, along with the clergy of SFDS, are here to help you. If you would like to ask questions about what is involved, please contact the parish office. Case sponsors are available in English and Spanish.
